Week 7 Fun Challenges

This week let's have some fun doing 3 different challenges. Take a photo or leave a comment on the blog telling everyone what you have done. Make sure you are keeping up with your learning on the learning websites, but also make sure you are getting away from the screens and doing some other learning too. Have fun!

💥 Challenge #1: Go on an 'Alphabet Walk'. Before you leave, write the letters of the alphabet down the side a a piece of paper. As you walk around your house or local area, try to find something that starts with each letter of the alphabet. Can you find something for every letter?

💥 Challenge #2: Construction challenge. What can you make using Lego or other toys that you have? Maybe you can follow up on last week's learning and build a bridge. You could also use cardboard, paper or reuse other items you can find around your house. Take a photo or bring your construction to one of our Google meets.

Week 6 Challenge - Build A Bridge!

Here is a fun challenge for this week.  😀

There has been a washout and the bridge has collapsed! Your challenge is to build a bridge out of any materials you can find, but it needs to be strong. This could take some thinking, some planning, some drawing, some experimenting and some patience! If at first you don't succeed...try, try again.

Most of all have fun and share your efforts with me and your classmates. 👍

Kia ora. Here's a fun Friday challenge for Book Appreciation Week.

It is a 'Read Anywhere BINGO Challenge'

Just for fun, see how many different ways or places you can read for 15 minutes. See if you can complete a BINGO by getting 4 in a row either horizontally, vertically or diagonally. Take photos of yourself reading in different ways or places and I will post them on our blog. You can even make up your own! Leave a comment on this post telling others some of the ways or places you have read.

Story writing

Kia ora koutou. Here is a fun story writing idea. You will need a dice and something to write and draw with. Choose one of these 'roll a story' frames to use to help give you ideas for your story. There is a superheroes one and a fairy tale one. Roll the dice.

First roll = your setting (where your story takes place).

Second roll = good character

Third roll = bad character

Fourth roll = a prop to include in your story

Talk to someone in your bubble about how your story could go. Make a plan. Your task is to write 1 or 2 stories this week. You could even use your story to complete the 'create your own book' activity that we all need to complete for sharing on Friday (see the post below for details). You could add illustrations to make it like a real book. Bring your story/book to our class Google meets to show others. Have fun!

Pukapuka / Book Appreciation Week!

Kia ora whanau! This week we are going to have a book appreciation week to celebrate all the great things that books and reading can do for us.

To get involved ... Read! Read! Read!

During lockdown this week, place extra focus on reading. Make a special reading log for this week and record all the books you read, including online books (e.g. Epic!). Bring your special reading log to our class Google meets to show and share. Let's see what everyone else is reading. Leave a comment on our blog telling others some of your favourite books you have read this week.

Have a look at the slide below. It has some cool book appreciation activities to do. I would like everyone to complete the 'Create A Book' activity during this week. We will share your books at our class meetings. Also choose 3 of the other activities to do and email me your work.

Remember, this week ... Read! Read! Read!

McKenzye's word art.

Ka pai for getting involved McKenzye! Our school value of Manaakitanga is a great value for life. So colourful too!

Jack W's word art

Ka pai for getting involved Jack! What a great word choice too. Arohanui Aotearoa!

Stella's word art

Ka pai for getting involved Stella! Your message is so important right now and the objects you have used show amazing creativity. Ka mau te wehi - fantastic!

Millie's word art

Ka pai Millie for getting involved! Earlier this week we learned how 'Kia Ora' can mean so much.

 Ka rawe - awesome!

Word art challenge

Kia ora! Just for fun, we are going to do a word art challenge.

Your task is to create a piece of word art using things you can find in your bubble.

Your message should be a positive inspiration to others.

You could choose to use Te Reo Maori words as it is Maori Language week. You could choose to use items from nature. This example uses puriri flowers I collected from my yard. I placed them on a blanket to make a plain background so it was easy to read. My message is a positive message to Aotearoa for staying strong during lockdown. 'Kia Kaha' means stay strong, dig deep, give it your all, remember you purpose.

Send me a photo of your word art and I'll post it on our blog for everyone to see. I look forward to seeing your creations!

Kia pai to ra - have a good day.

Making quality blog comments

Kia ora room 16. As part of our writing learning from home, we are learning to write quality comments on our class blog (and on other Owairaka School blogs). We have been learning that to be a quality comment, our message should be positive, thoughtful and helpful. Remember to start with a greeting and end with a sign off using your name. It is thoughtful to make connections to the blog post by answering or asking questions. As with all writing, you must check your spelling, your punctuation, and that your writing makes sense. You should get someone else in your bubble to check your writing before you publish. Your task is to write some quality comments to post on our class blog. I look forward to reading them!

Te Wiki O Te Reo Maori Fitness Activities

Tena koutou katoa. Karawhiua - have a go at these Te Reo Maori kemu or games.

They could be fun to try with your whanau and will help to get you moving.

Leave a comment on this post to tell us which ones you have tried or which ones are your favourites.
