Cultural Unity Day - the food!

Cultural Unity Day is one of our favourite days and one of our favourite parts of the day is the delicious food from all around the world. It's a great chance to try foods from different cultures and maybe try something new that you've never tried before. Yum! Thanks to all the parents and families for making food to help make the day special.

Swimming skills and water safety

This summer term we have been learning some important swimming and water safety skills. Our instructors have helped us to become more confident in the water and taught us some survival skills. This lesson we had life jackets and learned how to stay safe if we fell of a boat into the water. They even made waves and splashed us to make it seem like the  ocean. You can tell from our smiles that we had fun as well!

Sunny day science

We took advantage of some recent sunny weather to do an outdoor science investigation. We went outside and drew around our shadow three times - morning, midday and afternoon. We traced the outline of our shadows and made predictions about what might happen. We wanted to investigate if the place our shadow fell changed throughout the day and if the size of our shadow changed. We noticed that our shadow was cast on the opposite side of the light source (the sun). We saw how as the sun moved during the day the place our shadow fell also moved. We also found that our shadow was longer in the morning and afternoon and shorter in the middle of the day. We wondered why, so used a torch in class to investigate. We observed how when the light source (the torch or sun) was overhead it made a shorter shadow than when it shone from a low angle.

This is us and these are our values

This is us, ruma tekau ma ono, at our cool school.
These are our values: Manaakitanga, Manawanuitanga, Kaitiakitanga.
Room 16, can you talk to your friends and family about what these values mean?

More super readers!!

We are ALL super readers in room sixteen! We all try hard to be organised and have our book bags everyday. We work hard to make sure we read at home every night and sign our reading log. Lots of us have finished the first page of our reading logs and have some celebration stickers too. Keep up the super reading room sixteen!

πŸ˜ŽπŸ’¦SWIMMING!πŸ’¦πŸ˜Ž

We have LOVED our swimming lessons with our instructors from 'swim station' - very lucky!
We are swimming every day and learning loads of water safety skills.
It's also a great way to cool off on these hot summer days and keep fit!
Thanks for remembering your togs each day room 16. πŸ–’
