Oakley Creek

We have been learning about our local waterway, Oakley Creek. We have learned how important it is to keep our community clean and litter-free so that rubbish doesn't get washed into the creek and end up in our harbour. We are the 'kaitiaki' or caretakers of our backyard! We went on some walks to explore Oakley Creek and helped Sustainable Coastlines to do a clean up of the creek too. We are proud of our Katiakitanga!

Owairaka Maunga Trip

We were lucky to have beautiful sunshine for our 'maunga march' last week. We all walked up Owairaka/Mt. Albert together and searched for local Auckland landmarks. We heard the traditional story of Wairaka and enjoyed a picnic and a play. This trip helped us learn about our local backyard and our city. It was also great fun!

Certificate celebrations!

Well done to these room 16 superstars who received certificates recently. Noah displayed Manaakitanga by being kind and caring. Pepetua displayed Manawanuitanga by taking risks and trying new things. Jack and Thornton displayed Kaitiakitanga by getting involved in our 21 day challenge to pick up plastic that could otherwise end up in the sea. Congratulations!

S.O.S. = Save Our Seas

Some great work from Emme about saving our seas and sea creatures. A very important message about Kaitiakitanga and caring for our marine environment and the wonderful creatures within it. Thanks Emme!

Rubbish isn't good for sea creatures. If we keep putting rubbish on land it could go down the drain into the ocean. Some sea creatures like sharks and bigger fish eat jellyfish, but some creatures can't tell the difference between a plastic bag and a jellyfish. That means lots of animals are endangered so WE NEED TO KEEP OUR OCEAN CLEAN!!!

Lockdown Learning #3

Kia ora koutou. Here are some more fun ideas to try at home. The 'Kea Kids News' is a great site. If you like the 'how to draw an octopus' activity, remember there are more of those on the Young Ocean Explorers site. Have fun and enjoy the end of the week. 😃

Home learning

Thorsten has been learning from home too. Here are some things to share.

Keep up the great work everyone!

Great job!

Here is the rubbish that Jack picked up on his walk to the park yesterday. Great Job Jack! It is great that you have helped by saving this rubbish possibly ending up in the sea. It is also a bit sad that there is so much rubbish in our backyard. Remember our challenge and help by picking up plastic that you see. The Earth thanks you! 👍

Nice work!

Check this out! Jack W has followed the instructions to make an origami fish. He has also drawn an awesome whale from the Hauraki Gulf and a map of his local area. Nice work Jack!

Great work, great ideas!

Zainab has been doing some great work during lockdown as she learns from home.

Have a look at her instructions for "How to make an origami fish". See if you can follow her instructions and make your own origami fish.

I love her ideas about "How I can save the Earth". Perhaps you could write your own ideas too.

Leave a comment below by clicking on the 'pencil symbol' and congratulate her on her great work!

Lockdown Learning - Monday

 Kia ora room 16!

This week we will be learning from home again and there will be some fun activities to choose from on the blog on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Have fun trying some of the activities and share it with me if you can. We will also be having class google meets each day at 10.30am and they will be a great chance to share any of the activities you have tried.

Each day make sure you do some reading and record one line in your Reading Log.

Remember our 21 Day Challenge if you are out doing a walk and pick up any plastic that could otherwise end up in the oceans. Count how many pieces you can find. Thank you!
