Cultural Unity Day

Cultural Unity Day is one of our favourite days at Owairaka. It is a great chance for us to celebrate the many different cultures we have at school. It is also a chance to recognise that we are all the same on the inside. Also, we all love dressing up in cultural costumes and, of course, trying lots of different foods at the shared lunch! Awesome effort Owairaka!

Kindness is a superpower!

Well Done to Jack and Thorsten for being kind, helpful classmates. They have consistently shown kindness and the willingness to help others. They received certificates in recognition of this at our special 'Pink Shirt Day' assembly. Kindness is a superpower!

Pink Shirt Day

Pink Shirt Day 2020| Friday 16 October - Ko ngā Kōrero Whānau o Te Pae Kererū #23 - Term 3

Today we celebrated 'Pink Shirt Day'. This day aims to stop bullying and encourage kindness. This fits perfectly with our school value of Manaakitanga and is something we always value in our class and at our school. It was cool to see everyone get involved and dress in the spirit of the day.

Here is a picture of us hosting a special assembly promoting kindness.

Well done everyone. Spread kindness everywhere!

Pyramid Problem Solving

This week in Maths we had a lot of fun using sticks and blue tack to make triangular pyramids. After making our own pyramid (called a 'size 1' pyramid), we joined them together to make a 'size 2' pyramid. The challenge was to work out how many sticks a size 2 pyramid would take. Next we wondered how many sticks it would take to join all our pyramids together and make a 'size 3' pyramid. So we tried it. The final challenge was to figure out how many sticks it would take to create a 'size 4' pyramid. Do you think you could work it out? Check out these slides to see if you can do it. Have fun!

Welcome back to term two!

Term two is here and we are excited to be back at school learning together. We have lots to look forward to this term, including a whole-school production. More details to follow.

Congratulations to our first two certificate winners this term, Maddy and Zainab. Both have shown outstanding effort and Manawanuitanga in class to start the term. Keep up the great work everyone!
