ANZAC Day Learning

ANZAC Day is on April 25th.
It is a day we remember those who have fought or died in wars, in particular the
Australian and New Zealand soldiers that fought at Gallipoli during the First World War.
This year all public ANZAC ceremonies are cancelled but there is lots of learning in these slides.
Have a look at the slides, see the videos, try the activities and talk about the slides with your family.
I really like the idea of decorating one of your windows at home with ANZAC decorations,
then going for a walk around your neighbourhood to see if you can find others.
A nice way to remember them. Lest we forget.

The kids should see this!

Category: Ideas For Kids - Taranaki Gifted Community Trust

Have you seen the website called 'The Kid Should See This'
(just click the link)

It offers a range of smart videos for curious minds of all ages. There are some super interesting things to explore and discover. I bet even the grown-ups in your house will learn loads of things so make sure you talk about some of your exploring and discoveries with them.

This week it would be cool to try some science experiments that you can do at home.
The kid should see this website has 'ten science experiments for kids at home'.
Another place to look for some easy to do at home science experiments is 'Steve Spangler Science'.

If you take a photo or video you can send it to me or you could draw and write about what you did, what you saw and what you wondered.
Have fun!

Learning from home

Hopefully you have received a special parcel in the mail to help you with learning from home during the national lockdown. We got one at our house and it was fun to open it and have a go at the activities inside.

Another place to have a look is the learning from home website created by the government.
It has loads of learning activities you could try, ideas for writing, maths and books to read.

Also keep checking this blog - I will be posting up more learning at home ideas and any work that you share with me so your classmates can see your learning too.

Your chance to learn with Lexia Core5

To help us learn from home at this time, all students are being given free access to a fantastic literacy learning programme called Lexia Core5.
It is a fun computer-based programme which provides learning at an appropriate level for each individual learner and allows them to progress at their own pace.
I will email instructions for using Core5 including your username and password then you'll be ready to go! Enjoy!

At home activities #3

Learning at home in 2020 or learning in the 1850s

We are living in interesting times.
We need to 'learn from home' during the national lockdown.
How does that compare with learning during the 1850s?
We got a taste of what school was like during the 1850s on our trip to the Howick Historical Village in term 1, and it was very different!

To help you learn from home in 2020 you can check this blog. I will also email learning ideas to you. You can login to learning websites like 'matific', 'studyladder' and 'sunshine online'. I can set tasks for you to do on a computer and I can see which tasks you have done on my computer. You can email other work to me and I can post it on to this blog for your classmates to see.
It was certainly very different in the 1850s, don't you think?
