Learning about volume

We have been learning how to find the volume of cuboids.
We know that volume is the amount of space inside a 3-D shape.
When we calculate volume we multiply the width by the length by the height.
We made models to check our calculations and enjoyed this mathematical challenge!

Well done Richee!

Well done Richee for being respectful of others and responsible in the classroom.
We all appreciate your efforts. Keep up the great attitude!

The Puriri 'Maunga Munch'

Exciting times are upon us! The six classes from the Puriri team have worked hard all year. To celebrate, we are planning a special trip up Owairaka mountain to have a picnic lunch. We're calling it the 'Maunga Munch'. We have been learning about healthy eating, the different food groups, and a balanced diet. At the moment we are planning our picnic lunch based on what we have learned. Here we are using supermarket online shopping tools to plan our healthy lunch making sure that we stick to our budget we have to spend. Not as easy as we thought, but important life skills. We can't wait for the Maunga Munch on Friday 30th of November. Parents are welcome to come along!

Please come prepared with togs, towel and swimming bag on these days. Thank you

Hip Hop Lessons

It has been cool to have a couple of hip hop dance lessons at school recently. We have some talented dancers in our class and we all enjoyed learning a dance together and even having a dance battle.

Great stuff Cole and Leilani !

Thank you and well done to Cole and Leilani for being great exponents of our Owairaka school values. Cole showed Kaitiakitanga by writing a very persuasive letter to the Prime Minister to help save our endangered Maui dolphins. Leilani showed Manawanuitanga by always having a super positive attitude toward all learning tasks. Keep up the great work!

Calendar Art

Please have a look at our 2018 Calendar Art. We were inspired by the circular, abstract artwork of Wassily Kandinsky. We worked hard and are very proud of what we produced. Please try to support our school by buying our artwork as a 2019 calendar, diary, greeting cards or mouse pad. Thank you!

Garden To Table

This term we are very lucky and very excited to be taking part in the Garden To Table program. We do this each Wednesday. We take turns working and learning in the garden and in the kitchen. It is great fun and very satisfying to harvest from our school gardens and prepare food together. It is always great to share the meal that we have all worked together to prepare. It is also cool to try new foods and flavours. We love Garden To Table!
