🌱 Matariki planting 🌱

We celebrated Matariki at Owairaka today. As part of our celebration we planted a young manuka tree.
This year we have been learning about being 'kaitiaki' or guardians.
We had repotted and cared for the young tree in our class for a while and had even given it a name - 'Manu' the manuka.
Today was the day to plant Manu the manuka outside.
We will continue to be kaitiaki and care for Manu and our other school plants and trees.
We have learned that being kaitiaki means leaving a place better than when we found it.
Ka pai Owairaka!

Super science

We had fun investigating the elasticity of polymers by trying to poke a wooden skewer through certain parts of a balloon. We found out that some parts of the balloon were under more stress than other parts. With a little lubricant to reduce friction we could push the skewer through the balloon without popping it. Cool!
