Loud Shirt Day disco!

This Friday is disco day and this term it is a special one. The theme for our end of term discos is Loud Shirt Day.  Loud Shirt Day is an annual event held every September, and is all about getting loud and raising funds to help deaf children learn to listen and speak.  Money raised for Loud Shirt Day goes to The Hearing House and the Southern Cochlear Implant Programme so that deaf and hearing-impaired children get the therapy they need to listen and speak like hearing kids.  Owairaka would like to encourage everyone to start thinking about what bright coloured clothing they could wear to our end of term Loud Shirt Day Discos.  We ask that everyone brings a coin donation for the Loud Shirt Charity. Donations will be collected on Disco Day - Friday 27 September (the last day of Term 3).

Visit to the local community gardens

Next week, on Tuesday, we are visiting the local community gardens again. We have done this once a term this year under the guidance of one of our school parents as part of a project to encourage the community to interact while planting, caring for and harvesting from the gardens. If can come to help send a message to school - we'd love to have you along! We always have a lot of fun, help out as much as we can and even pick up rubbish in our community. Here are a few pictures from our last visit.

The Art Exhibition is officially open!

The 2019 Owairaka Art Exhibition is officially open! We held a special assembly outside the hall and cut a ceremonial ribbon to celebrate the grand opening. The Art Exhibition also marks the 90th birthday of Owairaka District School so we cut a huge cake as well and everyone in the school gets to have a piece! Please come and see our amazing artwork and happy birthday Owairaka!

2019 Owairaka Art Exhibition - are you coming?

Next week is going to be great. We are putting on a fabulous art exhibition with artworks by every child in the school on display in the hall. Room 16 have had fun doing some cool printing, and made a lot of mess making paper mache rockets by up-cycling materials. Have a look how much fun we were having in these photos!
Come along and see the fantastic art on display at the exhibition next week, Tuesday from 9.00am - 7.00pm and Wednesday from 8.00am - 12.00 pm.

Book character day!

We finished Book Week with a super fun book character day. We all dressed up as charactersoon from our favourite books and had a special parade and assembly. Can you guess which story characters we have dressed up as?

Book week 50 book challenge

Well done room 16! This week for 'Book Week' we all completed a 50 book challenge. That means we read 50 books or 50 chapters in one week! Great reading and great fun.
