Friday Fun Challenges

This blog post is all about getting away from the screens and doing some other learning.

We have been learning about the human body, so make sure you are exercising your muscles as well as your brain during lockdown.

💥 Challenge #1: Go on an 'Alphabet Walk'. Before you leave, write the letters of the alphabet down the side a a piece of paper. As you walk around your house or local area, try to find something that starts with each letter of the alphabet. Can you find something for every letter?

💥 Challenge #2: Construction challenge. What can you make using Lego or other toys that you have? You could also use cardboard, paper or reuse other items you can find around your house. Take a photo or bring your construction to one of our Google meets.

The Human Body Learning At Home

 Kia ora Room 16!

We have a new learning focus while we are in our lockdown bubbles - The Human Body and how it works. We are going to break it up into pieces (that sounds weird, doesn't it 😉) beginning with a study of the heart and our circulatory system - how blood moves around our body and keeps us alive.

Have a look at this slide deck and click on the links. If you click on the image labelled 'find out about the heart' you will find lots of information to help you. You can present your work in any way you like. For example, you could copy the table called 'the circulatory system' into a book or make a poster. If you can access your Google Drive, you will find a copy of this slide deck in your 'Inquiry' folder. You can then add text boxes or extra slides to show your learning and I can see what you have done.

Email me if you have any questions and join in to our class Google Meets each day at 10.30am. Most of all have fun and stay safe in your bubble.

Kia kaha! Andy.

Creatives Art Project

We had a lot of fun in room 10 as it was transformed into an art room. Working alongside local artist, Sara Hughes, we experimented with magnetic shapes called irregular quadrilaterals to see which ones looked good together or complimented each other.  It was cool to see all the different designs.

Our shape art

After working with and being inspired by local artist, Sara Hughes, back in class we created our own artworks using different geometric shapes. It was satisfying to experiment with different colours and patterns to create something unique. Some of us overlapped the shapes, others made patterns, while some tried to use complimentary colours.

What do you think of our art? Maybe you could try this yourself.

Creatives Art Project

We have an exciting opportunity happening at school. Working alongside local artist, Sara Hughes, we will be creating a brand new outdoor artwork which will reflect our many cultures and welcome people to our school. In preparation for this we have had some cool learning experiences. One of those artistic experiences involved using decorated hula hoops to explore pattern and shape. What patterns and shapes can you see in these photos?

Great friends, great work!

Look at these two! They worked hard together, worked well together and got certificates together. They even chose the same books! Manawanuitanga and Manaakitanga in action!

Ka pai!

Ka pai and well done to our first certificate recipients for term 3, Pepetua and Blessed.

They have both made an excellent start to the term, bringing a positive attitude, focusing on learning and showing kindness and respect to others.

Way to go!

Science In A Van

We started term 3 with a bang! We had a special visit from some scientists in a van. They brought along a sense of humour and some science knowledge to share with us. It was a fun way to start a term in which we will be exploring and learning lots more science. Hooray!
