Literacy learning at home

Here is a retelling of a traditional Maori story called 'Rata and the tree'. You can read and listen to the story in these slides. The last slide has a CHIOCE BOARD of activities to try. Maybe, after reading and listening to the story a few times, you can even retell your own version of the tale. You can share any work you are proud of with me and I will publish it on this blog.

Check back to see what your friends have done.

Also remember that the Maths Week website is still live this week.

Maths Week 2020

Maths Week | August 2020, New Zealand

              Hooray! It is MATHS WEEK!

We are having lots of fun trying new mathematical things in class this week.

Each day we are having a 'Daily Challenge' question in every classroom across the school. All correct enties go into a prize draw and there are 2 prize winners from each year group every day!

In room 16 we are having fun doing a 'Daily Dollar' exercise where we answer questions each day and earn 'virtual money' which we deposit into our virtual bank account.

We are also enjoying the Maths Week website which is only live online for this special week. If you want to have a go at home clink this MATHS WEEK link.

Happy Maths Week!

Science magic

We investigated the polymers of plastic and rubber by piercing bags full of water and balloons full of air with sharp wooden skewers (and pencils!). Guess what? They didn't leak or pop! At first, it seemed like magic. Then we found out that it wasn't magic...it was science!

Sound Science

We have been learning about the physics of sound in science lately. We learned that sound comes from vibrations and that sound travels by vibrating molecules, which pass the vibrations on from molecule to molecule. We made some paper cup telephones to help us understand this. They gave us an idea of how sound travels and they were fun!

Funky Feet Friday

We had a fun 'walk-to-school' day last Friday. It was fun to decorate our feet or shoes and walk to school. Walking to school is also healthy and a great way to meet other school mates. 👣👣👣
