Duffy role model assembly

We had a fantastic Duffy role model assembly today. We had a special visit from Daniel Faitaua, a newsreader and reporter for TVNZ. He spoke to us about the importance of reading and about how reading has helped him in his life. He presented William and Mikayla with cerificates for 100 nights reading. Next  we received our special Duffy box filled with books for us to keep. Finally, and best of all, we got to settle down and read our brand new books. Thanks Duffy!!

😨 CRAZY HAIR DAY 😨

Owairaka celebrated Crazy Hair Day today to support the 'shave for a cure' fundraiser. We raised money to support the leukemia and blood cancer foundation. We all dressed our hair up in crazy ways. We held a special assembly where four teachers had their heads shaved! We did some fun crazy hair day artworks too. Thanks to everyone for getting involved and supporting a great cause!

🌏 Green and Blue day ~ hooray! 🌏

We finished Seaweek with a fun 'blue and green' day. At Owairaka we have a green day each term, but this term we made it green and blue day to celebrate Seaweek. We all dressed in blue or green. We made posters to show people how to care for the oceans and the creatures that live in it. We did shell art. We went to the library to read books about the ocean. We had a visit from Tui's dad who is a fisheries officer. We did a big tidy up in our school gardens. We had fun!
Franny, Madalin and Jake painted their faces.

This week is 'Seaweek' across the country. We were lucky to have Steve Hathaway, an undrwater cameraman, visit us at a special assembly. He showed us how amazing New Zealand's underwater world is and told some really interesting stories. He has also developed an informative, interactive website called 'Young Ocean  Explorers'. Check it out! http://www.youngoceanexplorers.com/

💦 SWIMMING! 💦

We are loving having our school pool during term one. We are also very lucky to have lessons with special swim instructors each week. We are learning lots about how to swim and stay safe in the water. We are also able to cool down on hot days. Remember to bring your togs and towel each day. We have swimming lessons on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. We can also have a free swim on Tuesday and Friday lunchtimes. Cool!
